Who’s Stealing My Time?
An interactive installation uncovering our stolen minutes from the grasp of ‘Busy Culture’.
Centered around an interactive exhibition/installation, this project focuses on stolen time, and how time is taken away from you through the pillars of American society and the rise of ‘busy culture’. The installation invites the public to go on a interactive adventure and explore, to discover just exactly who it taking our time away and how. As the culprit gets bigger and bigger, the final realization is that time cannot even be stolen at all, you are only ever allowing something else to occupy it. By making people realize that they own all of their own time, the installation calls them to stop listening to these societal pressures and spend their time in ways that satisfy them.
The objective of this project was open-ended, but required three to four deliverables as a cohesive set. The design draws upon the stark neutrality of corporate America, with elements inspired by detective depictions in media. Yellow highlighter markings are paired with red string wrapping around puppetering controllers and mannequins, visually representing the manipulation of our lives. The installation would interact with the walls themselves, with the string glowing and wrapping around piles of papers, reconstructed clocks, and endless desks in a sea of bureaucracy.
