A healthy soil equates to healthy bountiful crops, but as the agricultural industry has refined its process of mono-crop harvesting, pesticide usage, and aggressive tilling, the earth has suffered as a result. These techniques disturb the natural organisms and lifeforms inside the soil, reducing its overall health and benefit to the plants grown in it. As a consequence, the crops grown in that soil have reduced nutritional values that directly affect everyone. The Save Our Soils campaign raises public awareness on soil health by informing consumers on the truth behind their foods to shift buying habits, and convince consumers to support farmers practicing healthy soil habits. This, in turn, would grow a stable market for more farmers to switch to healthy soil habits while still being able to support their livelihoods.
The objective for this project was to communicate extensive information about a social issue or cause to a specific audience, which could be accomplished through the appropriate deliverables of your choosing. The main deliverable, nutrient-deficient lunchboxes from the future, intends to force the public to face the real cost of our deteriorating soil health. The design draws upon woodblock type posters and farmers almanacs, to be familiar to the audience but still bold and modern.
